I love Memorial Day and not just because that means I get three days off. I love that we honor US military personnel both deceased, inactive, and/or currently on duty. My Pop was a military man, Navy to be exact. Every year he'd walk in Wilton's Memorial Day parade that went from downtown Wilton (or as my cousin once referred to it as, a nice building) to Wilton's Hillside Cemetery off Ridgefield Road. Like other military men and women, he had a great sense of pride about his service and loved being around others who did their time, too.
This is a picture is of Sharp Hill Cemetery, which isn't the oldest cemetery in Wilton, but pretty close. It was used from 1734-1934. It's a peaceful place, despite its location off the main drag in Wilton, Route 7. I was home in Wilton two years ago and took my camera and bombed around the town, snapping up what I could. I like the way the sun was hitting the American flag at sunset and that some loyal caretaker put a basket of geraniums in front.
So on this Memorial Day weekend, I'm wishing all of you a lovely and peaceful weekend. And for you active duty folks, I'm sending you safe and peaceful vibes.
