It's not even technically summer but I'm getting so excited for the annual bonanza of farm-fresh fruits and vegetables. I snapped these tomats last summer while in the Boston area at Verrell Farms in Concord, Mass. And I'm pleased to say they tasted as good as they look.
My Dad grew only tomatoes in our Wilton garden. My parents visited me one time in San Francisco, and when he arrived, he proudly presented me with a large, rectangular Macy's box wrapped in duck tape, a staple that he all but carried on his belt. He carefully picked and wrapped those and schlepped them out to San Francisco. I'm not sure there were or are any tomatoes better tasting than the ones he grew. That's how he was. One thoughtful man.
